Something For Your Earholes – Nine Inch Nails – Hesitation Marks

by: Charley (@ruperto2106)Academy award winner and master industrial musician Trent Reznor is back with another resounding Nine Inch Nails CD. The eight studio album and first since 2008, Hesitation Marks makes a long-awaited, and well received return for Trent Reznor and fans of NIN.Lead single “Came Back Haunted” marks a great comeback and can be taken as a response to Trent Reznor’s absence from NIN as suggested by the lyrics, “Everywhere now reminding me I am not who I used to be. I’m afraid this has just begun, consequences for what I’ve done”. The song has a lot of rhythmic industrial patterns and an electronic baseline. There is something strangely familiar and welcoming about Reznor’s voice. Another enjoyable part of the song is the addictive chorus.Second single “Copy Of A”. The song is reminiscent of songs from Year Zero as it features more electronic beats. It’s certainly a song that one will be singing along to.My favorite track on the album “Find My Way” slows the album down a bit with what I can only describe as the closest thing as a ballad that NIN will ever come to do. The song does build itself up to a wonderful climatic end. The piano on this track is simple yet hauntingly beautiful.Another great track is “Various Methods of Escape”. There is such raw emotion from Reznor on this track that hasn't been seen in a long time. The song starts off slow before an explosion of rock guitars hits you. I actually heard this song multiple times in a row as each listen, the track gets better and better. There is one downfall to the album. “Everything” was a track that was supposed to go to a proposed Greatest Hits album. This is by far the most “Pop” song on the album. It just doesn't fit with the concept of this album. It sounds like a cross between The Cure and New Order. Not the best song out there. If you are a die hard NIN fan, be sure to pick up this album. It’s a must have for your collection. I highly recommend picking it up, as the album gets better and better with each listen. I give it 4 out of 5 stars. Please sit back and enjoy the video for “Come Back Haunted”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RN6pT3zL44(WARNING: This video has been identified by Epilepsy Action to potentially trigger seizures for people with photosensitive epilepsy.
