After the announcement at SDCC of the Man Of Steel sequel being Batman vs. Superman there have been tons of buzz and speculation as to who will wear the cowl next. Josh Brolin. Christian Bale. Ryan Gosling. Last night the bomb was dropped, the next Caped Crusader will be... Ben Affleck! To no surprise the internet went crazy and as expected the public opinion is mostly negative. Where do I stand?BRING ON THE AFFLECK!I am very pleased with DC and Warner Bros. choice. Would he have been my first choice, no. Honestly, he wasn't even a thought for me. I would have personally chosen someone who hasn't had much big screen time but then again I am merely a geek from the Bronx.The main thing that people keep bringing up is Daredevil. Yes, it was horrible but that was a long time ago. From writing to acting to directing it was not good! But it has been over a decade since then. Affleck has become a way better actor since then. Not only because he has taken some serious lessons but he has become a director. Directors know what they want in their actors. His success behind the camera will definitely help his acting in the future.
Yeah, he has been kind of disappointing in his major blockbuster roles but those are all in the past. Yeah, he smiles a lot. But he can get the job done. He has the physique, especially the jaw line.A couple of the things I am mostly excited for are that the new Batman won't need a cough drop when he speaks (yay, no more subtitles) or he might not take an 8 year vacation because a woman he was crushing over was blown up. Don't get me wrong though, I did enjoy the Nolan trilogy but there were a few things that I hope are fixed in the future.Affleck being introduced into the new DC cinematic universe brings forth lots of opportunities as well. Could this mean that being an established director, will he possibly direct the next set of stand alone Bat-films? Will he continue in the cowl or will be eventually pass it down to a young Terry McGinnis? There is sooo much that can be touched on in future films with Batman and even with the Bat Family.I am excited for what is to come and can't wait to see what Affleck has in store for us as the protector of Gotham.Also remember everyone doubted Heath Ledger being casted as the Joker and look what happened there. Most importantly, Affleck was the bomb in Phantoms.What do you think of Affleck being cast as the new Dark Knight? If you aren't as excited as I am, who would you cast as Bruce Wayne?
