SHAZAM - Movie Review

downloadJUST SAY THE WORD!

FUN! That’s the word that best describes the latest superhero movie to the DC universe, SHAZAM. Although, it did take a moment for that fun to start.

Since this a spoiler-free review, I will just stick to the basics here.

The movie clocks in at just over 2 hours and includes a great mix of action and comedy.

Since this was essentially an “origin” film, views had to sit for a bit while the story developed. Not only were viewers greeted to Shazam’s background, they were also forced to sit through the origins of the villain. Not sure why this was done. It was almost as if they wanted viewers to sympathize with the villain.

Once Zachary Levi  (Chuck) appears, the fun commences. We get to see him “Grow up” into becoming this superhero and all the powers and responsibilities that come with it.

One of the fun parts in the movie is just watching the interaction between Shazam and Freddy (Jack Dylan Grazer), Billy Batson’s foster brother. Their comedic timing works well and adds the fun element to the film.

The overall tone of the film was lighthearted and not too dark. I think it’s a good family movie (Kids over the age of 5-6) should be okay. The word “SHIT” was thrown around a few times, so if you’re worried about language, it’s nothing you’re child hasn’t heard before.

I do recommend watching this movie, but keep an open mind. It’s more of a comedy/action flick and no where near as dark as previous DC movies (See Batman V Superman).

Of course don’t forget to stay after the credits. There is a mid-credit and an end credit scene. Again, since this is a spoiler free review, all I will say that the mid-credit scene introduces a major villain!

Out of 5 stars, I give this one 4 out of 5.  While it wasn’t the best superhero movie out, I look forward to seeing it again.
