Why didn’t you tell me then?”“I really don’t want to do any work, so I figured if I postpone everything. It will get done by someone that isn’t me”“You have issues, bro,” I laughed while I stared out my office window that has an amazing view of a brick wall. Gotta love working in the Big Apple. Dale began telling me his story but I wasn’t paying attention to his shenanigans; my mind was still in the café. We have gone there almost every morning for the past year and a half and we haven’t seen her before. She was like a breath of fresh air in this city of smog. I can just vision her saying my name as she takes my order. “Jeffery,” Seeing how her mouth enunciated every syllable in my name made my mind wander.  “Stop fucking daydreaming! I know you aren’t working that hard, I can fucking see you from here.” Dale said.“No, you can’t. We aren’t even on the same floor.”“If you were listening to my story, you would have heard I snuck into your office and installed cameras over the weekend.”“Shut up,” I chuckled. I could always rely on him to come up with some shit that made me laugh. I remember once he told me that he tasted his own urine because he was curious to see how it tasted. I don’t know how true that was but he always has the weirdest stories. “I can’t get my mind of that girl from the café.”“The one with the nice rack and the blue eyes that smiled at me? Yeah, I’ll be thinking about her in a few minutes too.” “That’s fucking disgusting. I’m glad we don’t work in the same office. I’m talking about the barista. The cute red head,” I told him as I leaned back in my work chair. “Aww, little Jeffery is crushing on the soulless ginger girl that didn’t give me a smiley face on my cup. Can you believe that shit?”“I’m sure automatic doors open for her, bro. She is fucking cute.” Fuck, I can’t believe I just told him that. Dale is a great guy but is a ballsy mother fucker. He is going to tell her.“Want me to hook it up?” Dale asked in a devious voice.“No! I don’t think Mary would appreciate that.”“Come on, Jeff. You told me yourself that your life is boring and you need a little spice in your life. Now, you can add ginger snaps to your dessert.” Dale has puns for just about anything. “Yeah, I admit we do lead a bit of a boring life but I’m happy with Mary. She’s a great lady.”“You’re such a sap. Stop daydreaming and get back to work.” He hung up the phone and left me thinking for the rest of the morning about this mysterious new girl in my life.I see my phone flashing on the desk. I didn’t notice it vibrate at all. I pick up my phone and see that Mary had called and left me a voicemail. “Hey, honey. I hope you are having a great day. I wanted to know if you wanted to have lunch together. Call me or text me back. I love you.” Damn, did she know I was thinking about someone else? I swear sometimes I feel like women have psychic abilities. I doubt it though. I love her but she isn’t necessarily playing with a full deck of cards. I call her back and she doesn’t even let is ring.“Hey, big daddy,” she answered seductively.“What if it was someone else calling you from my phone and you answered the phone like that?”“What a kill joy? No one is going to call me from your phone, dumb ass.”“What if I lost my phone and you were the last person that contacted me and they called you to return it.”“Oh please, Jeff. No one is going to return your crappy Windows phone. They might just throw it into the train tracks,” she is always mocking me about having a phone no ones uses. "Anyway, do you want to have lunch together or not? I heard of this really cute café not that far from where you work that makes really good sandwiches.” Could she be talking about the same café I go to every morning? Probably not. “Sure, where is it? I’ll meet you there.’“It’s on the corner of 35th and 5th. I can’t wait to see you. Love you, bye.” She hung up. What are the odds she would pick the same place where the girl I was crushing on was working at? Small fucking world, huh.I leave the office and start walking toward the café. I couldn’t tell Mary no because she never ask to go to lunch together. Plus it was still nice out and I wouldn’t mind seeing ginger girls bright eyes once more today. I’m standing on the corner waiting for Mary to show up when I feel a pinch on my butt. “Hey, big boy,” it was Dale. “Coming to see your new lady friend, huh?”“No, I’m meeting Mary for lunch. She picked this place. I just agreed.”“Well, just so you know she isn’t in there. I came a little early to see if I could work a little bit of the Dale magic for you.”“What the fuck, dude? I told you don’t do that!”“Relax, bro. I’m kidding. I bumped into nice rack and blue eyes on my way here and invited her to lunch.”“You really waste no time. Get back to work. I don’t want Mary to see me hanging with hookers on the corner.”“Hey, it’s a wonderful profession, full of happiness and pleasure. Don’t knock it until you try it,” he said as he crossed the street headed towards his office.“Was that Dale? What is he talking about?” Mary asked just before she gave me a big hug and a kiss.“Nothing, he is always mouthing away about some nonsense.” I opened the door for Mary and we entered the café.
