One of the most anticipated rock album's of 2013 was finally released last week to much hype and fanfare. So does Dave Grohl's project, Sound City - From Real to Reel the soundtrack live up to the hype?Well, let me start by listing some of the musicians who appear on album besides the aforementioned Dave Grohl. Joshua Homme (Queens Of The Stone Age, Them Crooked Vultures), Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails), Corey Taylor (Slipknot, Stone Sour), Sir Paul McCartney (some band called The Beatles) who joins Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear (the surviving members of Nirvana), Stevie Nicks (Fleetwood Mac), Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters, Taylor Hawkins and The Coattail Riders) and many more legendary artists.If that doesn't get you pumped up and excited, you don't know jack about Rock Music.The CD starts off with a bang with lead track "Heaven and All" with Robert Levon Been (Black Rebel Motorcycle Club). This track gives the album a much welcomed rift and sets the tone for what truly an epic album this is.The Stevie Nicks led track "Can't Fix This" reminds you that Stevie is still one bad ass chick you don't want to fuck with. This track is such a stand out track it actually surprised me with how good it is.Another stand out track is the Rick Springfield (he of "Jessie's Girl" fame) punk track "The Man That Never Was". Listening to a song like this makes you wonder why Rick didn't have any other big hits.On the Lee Ving (Fear) led "Wife is Calling" is another punk inspired tune. One you will either love or hate with its influx of quick lyrics and messy instrumentation."From Can To Can't" is the most inspired song. Corey Taylor sings this track with as much conviction , passion and emotion that we come to expect and down right love from him. This track was also the second single of this album. However, it's the best track on the album.The Joshua Homme track "Centipede" slows things down with a slow ditty on an acoustic guitar. It's a great mellow song as only Homme can do.When the Sound City soundtrack was announced it came with the announcement that the surviving members of Nirvana were reuniting with Sir Paul McCartney at the helm. This was to be the lead single of the album. I for one was skeptical of this paring. Upon hearing "Cut Me Some Slack" all doubt I had vanished. The paring works fantastically well and makes me wish they would cut more tracks together. McCartney actually does a perfect job keeping up with the quick fast paced style of Nirvana.It's safe to say that the passion that Dave Ghrol had in this project shines through every note, lyric, drub beat, and artist that help created this must have album.Without a doubt in mind, this is a 5/5 album!Go get yourself some Sound City now!
