by: Steve (@MisterJackal)I have been an avid podcast listener for almost two years or so. They always plug stuff and keep me in touch with a bunch of things that I wouldn't normally watch or listen to. So with all that said, I was listening to Get Up On This with Jensen Karp, in which getting people up to speed on to different things that they may or may not know about whether its music, books, movies etc. He had mentioned Meg Myers on a couple of occasions and I thought nothing of it. This week she was a guest on the show and even though I was working at the office my concentration was focused more to the podcast then to my actual work. As the interview went on, Jensen played "Adelaide" and found out her EP Daughter In The Choir was free to download on her site. After thinking about it all day and watching her video for "Monster" a few times I had no other choice but to go home and download it!
Before I get into the EP, here is a little bit of background on Meg Myers. She is 25 and former Jehovah's witness originally from Tennessee that eventually landed in Los Angeles to pursue a career in music. She has been compared to some strong female voices, including Fiona Apple, Alanis Morissette and Sinead O'Connor. Now to the fun stuff... Daughter In The Choir is produced by relatively new producer Doctor Rosen Rosen making this EP an amazing match. Even though they are both "rookies" in the music industry, they bring a brilliant energy and an amazing sound. Filled with sputtering beats, guitars, pianos, some electronic production and even a banjo makes every song really enjoyable. Myers' vocal in songs like "After You" and "Curbstomp" show a lot of her range and even with some audio tricks she can give an amazing performance. She then shows her sarcasm and silliness in "Tennessee" which lightens up the mood from some of the dark lyrics through out the majority of the EP.Daughter In The Choir is a great album and I can see her career flourishing into something big.[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVQqZg5BisE]Don't forget to go to meginthedark.com and download the EP!!!
