Something For Your Earholes: Flyleaf – New Horizons

by: Charley (@ruperto2106)I know I’m a little late with this review, but mother nature is a very fickle being. Before the release of Flyleaf’s new album New Horizons it was announced with much sadness that lead singer, Lacey Sturm, was leaving the band and would not be touring with the band to promote this CD. In her stead, the band has recruited Kristen May (former lead singer of Vedera) would take the reigns as lead vocalist for the tour. No word yet as to if she would remain the bands lead singer. I am truly sadden by the departure of Lacey mainly because she is leaving on such a high note and it would have been awesome how she and the band would follow up what is a great album. The album starts off with “FIRE FIRE” in which Lacey starts off saying “Almost thought we made it home, but we don’t know this place at all. That’s enough now dry your tears. It’s been a long 11 years.” This speaks to the long road Lacey herself has taken in her life including recently becoming a first time mother. The passion emanates from her voice in a way Flyleaf fans have come to expect.Lead single “New Horizons” is an song that is meant to uplift and be an anthem for those who are experiencing hardships. “So you're tired but you're alive, so open up your eyes and you can get your sleep when you are dead. Kill the clock inside your head. Bring your normalcy to the edge and watch it drown in new horizons”.“Call You Out” brings us the familiar harder sound of Flyleaf we know. It is also by far the hardest song on the album and one of the best tracks. Other standout tracks are “Great Love”, “Saving Grace” and “Broken Wings”. The only sad thing about the album is the constant thoughts of wondering what could have been if Lacey stayed with the band and the fact that at a little over 38 minutes this CD is just too short. It makes us yearn for more.I wish Lacey good luck on her future endeavors! My rating for is  New Horizons... 4/5Here’s the video for “New Horizons”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4QR9Q4IK5nU
