Something For Your Earholes: Maroon 5 – Overexposed

by: Charley (@ruperto2106)On June 26th, the Santa Barbara based, Maroon 5 dropped Overexposed their fourth studio album for the masses. The album starts off with Adam Levine stating “You and I go hard at each other like we’re going to war”, and with this one line we are transported to “Harder to Breathe” from Songs About Jane which launched this Grammy Award winning band, we know we are going to get a great pop/rock album. It’s this simple formula that Maroon 5 uses that lets you know what you are going to get with each and every album.Lead single “Payphone” is a great example of this. The only thing wrong with this track is the needless rap by Wiz Khalifa. It just ruins the tone and flow of the song.  They also throw us on a bit of a tangent with the ballad, "Sad", something Levine had never done but it’s by far one of the best tracks on the CD. His voice shows emotion and range that would surely gain more fans and will make his female audience want some alone time. If you decide to spend the extra couple of bucks for the Deluxe Edition (and I highly recommend that you do) you are treated to a blues inspired cover of Prince’s classic “Kiss”.Maroon 5 has never disappointed before and they are not doing it now. This is a great fun CD that I can see myself playing over in my car while driving down the highway with my honey.Rating: 5 /5http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRaWnd3LJfs
