Something For Your Earholes: Tenacious D - Rize Of The Fenix

by: Steve (@MisterJackal)

I was thinking of a way to start this off but I think Tenacious D did a great job doing it for me in the title track "Rize Of The Fenix"

When The Pick Of Destiny was released it was a bomb. And all the critics said that The D was done. The sun had set and the chapter had closed. But one thing no one thought about was The D would rise again! Just like the Phoenix (Fenix), we’ll fuckin’ rise again! That’s right the Phoenix, we’ll rise again!

Jack Black and Kyle Gass bring us another full of hilariously awesome songs, great parodies and a couple of side splitting skits. One of my absolute favorite tracks was "The Ballad of Hollywood Jack and Rage Kage" a song that brings us a behind the scenes of Jack and Kyle's journey from their first album to now with Rize. It gives us a glimpse of the ups and downs of JB entering the mainstream and KG's struggles and their inevitable reunion.  "Roadie", the ode to the unnamed heroes of the live shows, is another song that has been playing in my head even when I am not listening to this album. Another one of my favorites is "39", where Black tunes his inner Springsteen signing about this thirty nine year old sex interest and Gass brings a Buffett-ish sound. Star Wars fans would also approve of a song about the solution of all the worlds problems titled "Deth Starr". And the ultimate montage track "To Be The Best" which makes you feel like you are in any 80's training sequence.Rize of the Fenix is a fun album and an awesome addition to comedy fans collection. I rate it 3.5 out of 5.[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ls3rD8VfiSY]
